Rajarshi Shahu Mahavidyalaya (Autonomous), Latur

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms which include viruses, bacteria, fungi, algae and protozoa. Considering rural and agro based life background and awareness about the general health and hygiene, our curriculum is designed to educate our pupil in various important microbiological domains, as well as to promote and develop skills and competencies that have lasting value further than the classroom. The study of microbiology pursue career in many fields, including agriculture, environment, food, industry, public health, basic research and education. The Department of Microbiology of Rajarshi Shahu Mahavidyalaya (Autonomous), Latur was established in 1986 and committed to provide quality education and disseminating knowledge about the microbial world.

The infrastructural facilities of the department have been developed with advanced instruments and equipments like, Fermenter (5L), Cooling Centrifuge, Orbital Shaker, Audiovisual system and Computer facility. The department has three highly educated and dedicated teaching staffs and two skilled nonteaching staffs. Research within our department is focused on environmental microbiology and PGPR. The department has an independent research laboratory sufficient to cater research in various domains of Microbiology. The Department has its own Library, which contribute to the instantaneous needs of the students, teachers and researchers as well. Today, the library has more than 100 books on General Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetics and other Life Sciences and collection of references. Our Library is open for all the members of the department during official time all the days of the week. The department arranges various activities like seminars, surveys, group discussions, poster competitions, blood group detection camp, water potability testing, etc through ‘Microbiol’- A Microbiology Student’s Association; which shape the student’s personality and make the students socially responsible. Throughout the world, our alumni are held positions in research institutions, industry, government and higher education.
