Department of Geography was established in 1973, was like a nebula serving only to cater the needs of UG courses in Geography. In 1985 we turned into a protostar and started PG program. Since the inception of our Parent University till our autonomous status, most of the merit holders at UG and PG programs are from our department. At present department is fully developed like a star. Now department is a recognized research center and faculties are recognized Ph.D. guides. Well qualified, experienced and dedicated faculties are the core of the department who serve to cater to the academic needs of UG to doctoral research programs. An additional feather in our cap is, we are one of the Star Departments under UGC-CPE Scheme. Which has strengthened the infrastructural facilities and academic achievements of the department. Our faculties played a vital role by working by contributing their services as NSS Program Officer, NCC In-charge Officer, CoE, Chairperson of Research Center and Coordinator of Arts Faculty. The Bhugol Mandal (‘The Students Association of Geography’), is a platform for the students of geography. Every year it conducts various co curricular activities like - Geographical Tours, Quiz Competitions, Debate and Elocution Competitions, Poster Presentation, Map Reading, Field Visits, Socio-Economic Surveys to disseminate the knowledge of the world we live in.
After completing this specific programme
1) The students will be able to gather the information and knowledge of basics in geography.
2) This knowledge will understand and survive the life with geographical situation around us, which varies spatially and temporally.
3) The students will have firm foundations in the fundamentals and application of recent Geographical and scientific theories.
4) The data and knowledge of these courses in present program will help to students to become sustain and compete in competitive world.
5) They may able to interpret and analyze quantitative data.
6) This program will help to students to understand the natural processes on the earth and beneath the earth surface, which directly and indirectly affecting on the human life.
After completing this specific programme
1) This specific programme will be helpful to the student for extract the knowledge of geographical aspects at local, regional, national and gobal level. e.g. topography, climate oceanic activities etc.
2) The students will understand how to the study of geographical elements around us.
3) The students will become competent to face various competitive examinations and build their career.
4) The students will have an advanced level understanding.
5) The students will enlarge their professional foundations through activities such as teaching, internships, and fellowships
6) The Students will be able to communicate scientific results in writing and in oral presentation.
7) The students will acquire the basic tools needed to carry out independent research.
After completing this specific programme

3)Students will be aware about the computer application in research.
4)Students will know the software’s and its application in research.
5)Students will be aware about the agricultural problems.
6)Students will be able to understand the importance of soil resources.
7)Students will be aware about the concepts and methods in settlement geography.
8)Students able to evaluate the association between demography, physiographic and the development of settlement patterns.
9)Students will be aware about the advance methods in the study of population.
10)Students will be able to understand the development in population geography.
11)Students will be familiar about concepts and methods in the research of Tourism Geography
12)Students understand the pattern of tourism in India and its development.
